100 years of filmmaking with the Utah Film Commission.

Footloose, Thelma and Louise, Galaxy Quest, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Forest Gump all have one thing in common, they were all shot in Utah!

We are proud to launch the first annual Carbon Shortcuts Project. But what is that? It’s a Utah based filmmaking contest open to all levels of creatives. So whether you are a youtuber, hobbyist, professional or never even pressed record on your phone, this project is for you!

So dust off your cameras and mics, get your crew together and head on out to make that film you’ve been dreaming of. Fill in the form below to register for free!

What is it? - A short filmmaking fest to celebrate 100 years of Film in Utah. Featuring 10 local 10 minute films.

Where is it? - The Rio Theater 210 S. Main Street in Historic Helper Utah during The Helper Arts Fest August 2024. Film Showcase & Judging: Friday, August 16, 2024 - 7pm, Encore Screening Aug 17, 2024 Noon, Film Award Show: Saturday, August 17, 2024 - 6pm

How to get involved? - Register before June 21st for free. At noon on June the random genres and elements will be emailed and posted on the social pages. Each team will receive 2 genres to choose from (or do both!) Get your random Utah Film genre (Scifi, Western, Hallmark, Adventure, Horror). Element to include - Historical fact about Utah chosen by you. Bonus if it is a fact about a Utah centric film. Utah specific prop to include - We will provide a Utah specific prop to include. Time limit - Under 10 minutes with maximum 60 secs for credits. Bonus points if you hit 10 mins exactly. Films due - Aug 5th 2024 11:59pm by digital upload. Email non password protected link to info@filmulate.com. You must include the waiver and title cards or you won't be judged.
